  • Design - is about communicating feelings through visual sensation and unique experiences as a human beings we buy a favorite products in part because of how they make us feel people don't want products that work they want to feel happy while using them
  • Principles of design - our tools used to create visual impact and interest in a composition
  • There are seven main principles these principles are used to help you work capture the interest of a viewer they are different from the elements of art how are the principles of design different from elements of art
  • Seven main principles
    • Balance
    • Emphasis
    • Movement and rhythm
    • Pattern
    • Proportion
    • Variety
    • Unity
  • Pattern - is a repeated element or design these can be found everywhere in nature and architecture and in almost every other aspects of art and life
  • Emphasis - is the part of the design that catches the viewers attention and becomes the focus of the painting usually the artist will make one area stand out by contrasting it with other areas
  • Variety - is the use of several different elements of design to show difference and diversity and to increase the visual interest of the work
  • Rhythm and movement - is a strong regular pattern of movement and movement is the direction or sequence of visual elements that leads the viewers eye throughout the work of art
  • Balance - is an even distribution of visual weight this could be symmetrical asymmetrical or radial
  • Proportion - is the relationship of one thing another thing in terms of quantity size or number accurate proportion show realism while inaccurate proportion show unrealistic cartoonish ideas
  • Four types of colors schemes
    1. Analogous
    2. Complementary
    3. Monochromatic
    4. Triad
  • Analogous - colors next to each other on the color wheel
  • Monochromatic - a color plus black and white
