  (an arrival), and signifies the start of an event or the arrival of a person.
• Advent - first season in liturgical year
• The 4 candle represents:

• The Focus of Advent preparation of the birth of Jesus on his first advent.
• begins on the Sunday nearest the feast of St. Andrew the Apostle or

  November 30.
• ends at the Christmas Eve or December 24.
• 1 Candle - 100 Years
• The Purple Candle should be lighter shade
• 4 candle - 400 years
• Advent Week 1 (purple) - Hope: Prophecy Candle
• Advent Week 2 (purple) - Peace: Bethlehem Candle
• Advent Week 3 (pink) - Joy: Shepherds Candle
• Advent wee4 (purple) - Love; angle's Candle
• 1st Sunday "Prophet Candle" reminds us that Jesus is coming

• 2nd Sunday "Bethlehem Candle" Micah had foretold that the Messiah will

  be born in Bethlehem, also the birthplace of king David

  • preparation for the coming of the king.
• 3rd Sunday "Shepherd's Candle" to the shepherds great joy Jesus came

  from the humble beginning like them.

  Symbolizes

  • joyfulness and rejoicing
• 4th Sunday "Angle Candle" The Angel announces that Jesus brings peace.

  Symbolizes

  • the culmination of love through the Messiah
• 25th of December White Candle as well as the other four candle

  Symbolizes that Jesus is really born in Earth.
• purple - praying/guidance strengthening of faith to the Lord
• pink - to be rejoiceful for the arrival
