water is needed for:
photosynthesis
transport
of minerals
cell
support
turgid
= firm
flaccid
= drooping
when a cell has sufficient water, the water pushes against the vacuole -> cells become turgid
water provides support for the plant and prevents it from wilting
if a cell doesn't have enough water it will become flaccid and the plant wilts
it's cell membrane pulls away from the cell wall and the cell becomes plasmolysed
