importance of water

• water is needed for:

  • photosynthesis
  • transport of minerals
  • cell support
• turgid = firm
• flaccid = drooping
• when a cell has sufficient water, the water pushes against the vacuole -> cells become turgid
• water provides support for the plant and prevents it from wilting
• if a cell doesn't have enough water it will become flaccid and the plant wilts

  it's cell membrane pulls away from the cell wall and the cell becomes plasmolysed
