Jesus' Knowledge of God

• • the title "Son of God" doesnt mean Jesus is related to God, but link to the Christina Doctrine of the Trinity (God as three-in-one)
• the relationship between God and Jesus is "Mysterious". Jesus called God Abba and a heavenly voice declares Jesus "my son"
• • The Gospels say Jesus comes into this world through the intervention of the Holy Spirit and Mary
  • The ancient world had myths of gods producing demi-god/hero offspring that weren't gods but had god-like powers.
  • Christians do not see Jesus as a figure like ancient heroes but is instead directly associated with God by the text
• • St John writes of Jesus as "Word", and that the "Word of God"
• Thomas refers to Jesus as "my Lord and saviour"
• In the letter to the Hebrews a psalm is addressed to Jesus ad God
• God's spirit will come again in Jesus' name (John 14:16)
• Jesus has saving God-like power
• Jesus is worshipped, something done to a God
• If Jesus is God and human, does that mean he had two beings inhabiting one body with one in power over the other?

  • this would mean that Jesus is God and a separate human being
• The belief of a "perfect conjunction" of Jesus' two natures was termed a hypostatic union
