  • Hot Deserts are typically found at 30 degress north and south from the equator longitude.
    • Hot deserts are formed from Rain Shadows and prevailing winds.
    • Moist, hot air rises and condenses, causing rain on one side of a mountain, causing vegetation to grow there
    • The cool air sinks and is deprived of moisture and warms again, causing no vegetation as there is no humidity
  • Desertification is caused by overgrazing (cattle), deforestation,(wood) and overcultivation(farm).
  • Desertification is the process of fertile land turning into infertile land.
  • Desert soils:
    • very dry, can get saturated easily
    • rocky, sandy, etc
  • Deserts have less than 250mm of rainfall per year.
