Shabbat

• SHABBAT - a day of complete rest and worship from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, celebrating creation.
• 1. Mother of family lights two candles and says a blessing to welcome Shabbat.
• 2. Two loaves of plaited bread called challah are blessed.
• 3. Kiddush prayer is recited over cup of wine and the meal time is time of relaxation and happiness with the family.
• 4. On Saturday Jews walk to synagogue. - They wear special clothes and say prayers.
• 5. At end of Shabbat, special ceremony called Havdalah takes place - meaning separation.
• Shabbat is day of complete rest so cant do certain things like work or cook.
• Jewish people believe that God rested on seventh day so they follow his example.
