    • Jesus calls the First Disciples
      1. Jesus walked by the sea of Galilee
      2. Saw two brothers: Simon (Peter) and Andrew (his brother)
      3. They were fishermen
      4. Jesus: "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men"
      5. They immediately left their nets and followed him
      6. Saw another two brothers, James and John with Zebedee their father
      7. They were in a boat mending nets
      8. They immediately left the boat and father and followed
    • The call of Matthew
      1. Jesus passed on from there
      2. Saw Matthew at tax office
      3. Jesus: "Follow me"
      4. Matthew rose and followed him
      5. Jesus sat at table in the house
      6. Many tax collectors and sinners sat down with Jesus and disciples
      7. Pharisees: "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"
      8. Jesus: "Those who are well have no need for a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice' for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners"
    • Salt and Light
      • You are the salt of the earth
      • If salt loses taste, how must its saltiness be restored
      • It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men
      • You are the light of the world
      • A city set on a hill cannot be hid
      • Men don't light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand to light up the whole house
      • Let your light shine before men, so they see your good works and give glory to your father in heaven
    • Denying oneself and taking up one's cross
      1. If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me
      2. Whoever would save his life would lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it
      3. What will it profit a man: if he gains the world, forfeits his life?
      4. What shall you give in return for your life?
    • Sermon on the Mount - concerning anger
      1. Heard it said to men of old: You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgement
      2. Everyone who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgement
      3. Whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council and whoever says "You fool" shall be liable to the hell of fire
      4. If you're offering your gift to the altar, remember there your brother has something against you, leave your gift there and go
      5. First be reconciled to your brother and come and offer your gift
      6. Make friends quickly with your accuser while you're going to court with him, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, to the guard, to prison
      7. Truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny
    • Concerning Retaliation
      1. Heard it was said: eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth
      2. I say to you, don't resist one who is evil
      3. If one strikes your right cheek, turn the other one
      4. If anyone would sue you and take your coat, let him have your cloak as well
      5. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go two miles
      6. Give to him who begs from you, do not refuse him who would borrow from you
    • Love for enemies
      1. You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy!
      2. But I say, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so you may be sons of your Father in heaven
      3. He makes his sun rise on evil and good, sends rain on just and on unjust
      4. If you love those who love you, what reward have you?
      5. Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you salute only your brethren, what more are you doing then others?
      6. Do not even Gentiles do the same?
      7. You therefore must be perfect as your heavenly father
    • Concerning prayer
      1. When you pray, you mustn't be like hypocrites
      2. They love to stand and pray in synagogues and street corners, so that they may be seen
      3. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward
      4. When you pray, go to your room, shut the door and pray to your father who is in secret
      5. He will reward you
      6. Do not heap up empty phrases like Gentiles
      7. Your father knows what you need before you ask him
      8. Forgive men their trespasses, heavenly father will forgive you!
      9. If you don't, he won't
    • Concerning Fasting
      1. When you fast, don't look dismal like hypocrites
      2. They disfigure their faces so fasting may be seen
      3. They have received their reward
      4. When you fast: anoint your head and wash your face
      5. That your fasting is only seen by your father in secret
      6. He will reward you
    • Forgiveness
      1. Peter: "Should I forgive seven times?"
      2. Jesus: "Seventy times seven"
      3. Parable of the unforgiving servant: A king wished to settle accounts with a servant who owed 10,000 talents
      4. The servant fell on his knees and begged for patience, and the lord forgave his debt
      5. The same servant came upon a fellow servant who owed 100 denarii, seized him by the throat and demanded payment
      6. The lord heard of this and said: "You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt and you besought me: you haven't had mercy on your fellow servant as I have had on you?"
      7. The lord sent him to jail to pay his debt
      8. The same will happen with the heavenly father if you don't forgive your brother from your heart
    • Question on paying taxes
      1. Pharisees tried to entangle Jesus in his talk
      2. They sent their disciples and Herodians: "Tell us, is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
      3. Jesus was aware of their malice
      4. Jesus: "Why test me, hypocrites? Show me money for taxes?"
      5. They brought him a coin: "Whose likeness and inscription is this?"
      6. They said "Caesar's"
      7. Jesus: "Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's"
    • Rich Young Man

      1. "What good deed must I do to have eternal life?"
      2. Jesus: "Why do you ask me about what is good?"
      3. The young man said: "Keep the commandments" - do not kill, no adultery, don't steal, don't bear false witness, honor father and mother, and love neighbor as yourself
      4. The young man said: "I have observed these, what do I lack!"
      5. Jesus: "Sell what you possess and give to the poor, you will have treasure in heaven and come, follow me"
      6. The young man went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions
      7. Jesus said to his disciples: "It is harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle"
      8. The disciples asked: "Who then can be saved?"
      9. Jesus: "With men it is impossible, but with God all things are possible"
