  • PAPOVA is an acronym for Papilloma, Polyoma and Vacuolating viruses (Simian Vacuolating virus; does not affect humans)
  • 2nd smallest DNA virus

  Causes cervical cancer - Human Papilloma virus
• Polyoma

  • BK and JC viruses 
  • Can cause opportunistic infections usually immunosuppressed patients
• (HPV) Human Papilloma Virus

  • Causes human warts (kulogo) and cervical cancer 
  • Warts or condylomas 
  • Squamous epithelial tissues/cells 
  • Benign proliferation of the keratinized  squamous epithelial
  • resolution is within 1 - 2 years
  • Genital warts (benign)
  • Also known condyloma acuminate 
  • E6 and E7 are transforming proteins associated with initiating oncogenes 
  • Most prevalent viral sexually transmitted disease in United States
