Emigration

• 440,000 people left Wales to find work elsewhere. In Merthyr Tydfil 10,000 people left
• Some went to other countries such as Australia, NZ and Canada
• Some workers moved to the Midlands and south-east England for jobs (car manufacture)
• As more people left Wales the culture and language was affected
