  • MOTOR VEHICLE
    -any vehicle propelld by any power other than muscular power using the public highways
  • PASSENGER AUTOMOBILES - All pneumatic tire vehicle types similar to those usually known
  • ARTICULATED VEHICLE - Any motor vehicle with a trailer having no front axle, semi trailer
  • DRIVER - Any licensed operator of a motor vehicle
  • PROFESSIONAL DRIVER - any driver driving his own motor vehicle for hire is a professional driver
  • OWNER - Actual legal owner of a motor vehicle and registered in LTO

  • GARAGE - any building in which two or more vehicles, either with or without drivers, shall not include street stands and public service station
  • GROSS WEIGHT - The measured weight of a motor vehicle plus the maximum allowable carrying capacity in merchandise, determined by the Commissioner of the LTO.
  • HIGHWAYS - Every public thoroughfare, public boulevard, driveway, avenue, but shall not include roadway upon grounds owned by private persons, universities, or other similar institutions.

  • EXCEEDING REGISTERED CAPACITY (OVERLOADING) - passengers, freight or cargo load of a motor vehicle should not be more than its registered carrying capacity.
  • CARGO CARRYING DEVICES - carrying cargo at the rear or sides of trucks maybe allowed, subject to the approval if the commissioner, but the total net weight must not exceed 100kls.
  • RIDING ON RUNNING BOARD - strictly prohibited except for conductors
  • RIDING ON TOP OF THE MOTOR VEHICLE
    -shall not be allowed to ride on top of motor vehicle
  • REQUIRE MOTOR VEHICLE ACCESSORIES
    -evrey motor vehicle when operated on a traffic way should have the following specified accessories
  • HANGING ON
    -rising on the outside or rear end of any vehicle
  • DRIVER ALLOWING ANY PERSON TO HANG
    -ride outside of or at the rear end  of vehicle
  • HOLDING ON - moving vehicle whether on foot
  • OBSTRUCTION OF TRAFFIC - operating a motor vehicle in such a manner to obstruct, block, or impede the passage of another vehicle is prohibited.
  • PRIVATE - these are motor vehicles used for the personal use of their owners
  • PUBLIC UTILITY VEHICLES (puv a.k.a. for hire) - registered primarily  for the conveyance of passengers and other commercial goods.
  • GOVERNMENT - owned by government offices and used for offficial purpose only.
  • DIPLOMAT - issued to foreign diplomats and consuls assigned in the philippines.
  • Plate Numbers -  Upon registration, motor vehicles are assigned with plate numbers. The letter and numeral prefixes.
  • Private or not for hire MV - Green/Black with white background, on newer vehicles, the first letter usually indicates the region where the vehicle is registered.
  • Public Utility Vehicles or for hire MV - Black with yellow background
  • Government MV - Red  maroon  with white background usually starts with letter "S"
  • Diplomatic or other exempted MV - Blue characters on a white background plates reserved for diplomats,
  • Trailers - They have yellow or green plates that mostly have either "U" (private)  or "Z" (for hire) in the middle of the letter block.
  • Electric Vehicles - Orange plates are used (white symbols on orange background).
  • Motorcycles - Private motorcycles have green characters on a white background with the letters "MC stamped on the upper left-
  • Tricycles Private -  has green characters on a white background with the letters "MC"
  • Tricycle Public Ulity -  has black characters with yellow background with the letters "TC
  • Department of tourism (DOT) Accredited vehicles - are have yellow highlights mixed with the green color and share the same first letter of the current PUVs plates
  • Optional Motor Vehicle Special Plates- A project of the LTO since 2004, in the form of 3-Hemer 2-number,
  • Personalized (Vanity) plates- Anyone desiring to have his own personalized
  • Uniqueness -  the plate does not have a registered duplicate anywhere in the Philippines.
