• Male- refers to a person who has at least a Y chromosome
• genetic marker- segment of DNA w a known physical location on a chromosome. it can be a gene, but it can also be simply be a piece of DNA w no known function
• locus- physical location of a gene or genetic marker
• gene- segment of DNA that contains the code for a particular protein
• cell theory- care of principle of biology, a universally accepted scientific theory relating to the cellular basis of all living things
• tenets- basic principle that form the foundation of biology
• the 3 tenets of the cell theory state:

  all living organisms are made up of one or more cells

  the cell is the basic unit of life

  all cells arise from pre-existing living cells
• there is only ONE race: its called the human race
• there is NO genetic basis for the concept of race
