• The moneys were individually reared in a cage, each of which contained 2 surrogate mothers
• in one condition milk was dispensed from a plain wire mother whilst in the second condition milk was dispensed by the cloth mother
• Harlow measured the amount of time that the monkeys spend with each surrogate mother
