Shelters & Wardens

• 1.5 Million people in new Air Raid Precautions (ARP). Most were volunteers so were unpaid
• They worked from home registering people, enforcing the Blackout, sounding sirens, checking shelters, doing First Aid
• Anderson Shelters were given to people to put in their gardens in a hole and cover with earth
• Morrison shelters were steel metal cages to go under dining tables and could fit 2 adults and 2 small children
• People used Underground Tube stations in London
