  • his bloody life in my bloody hands- remains 

    bloody- double meaning he’s talking about the mans blood but also swearing in anger. my- no collective responsibility now- feels completely responsible. hints the speaker has been unbalances by his guilt, metaphor, pun-dark humour. at conflict with the dead man, but more with his own mind, ends the poem with a sense of despair and open ended, no resolution. He did murder someone but not with his physical hands, blames himself. repetition- will always replay in his mind
  • probably armed, possibly not - remains
    chance, the unknown. leads to the guilt. reoccurring question. adverbs show irrational disregard. ‘possibly not’ undermines severity of the statement, should he have been shot?
  • tosses his guts back into his body - remains
    casual indifference the nature of what is happening, a violent killing is juxtaposed to the relaxed way he talks about the event.
  • his blood-shadow stays on the street - remains
    persistant reminder, foreshadow the memories that are going to haunt him, guilt ridden life. metaphor for the memory of the man and events. blood connotantes death, shadow connotantes lingering memory.
