    > Vilna was supposed to be the new capital of Lithuania, but most of the people who lived there were Polish. Poland invaded Lithuania and took the city.

    > The League asked Poland to remove her soldiers. However, Poland refused to remove her soldiers. In their first crisis the League did nothing and Poland kept Vilna.
  • Corfu 1923:
    > The border between Albania and Greece still hadn't been decided. So an Italian General named Tellini was sent to investigate. He and his team were murdered. Mussolini was furious and demanded compensation. When he didn't get it, he invaded the island of Corfu, killing 15 people.

    > The League said that Italian aggression was wrong, but Greece still had to pay compensation.
  • Outcome of Corfu 1923:
    > Italy did not accept this and Mussolini complained to the Conference of Ambassadors: a powerful group of countries including France, Britain and Japan.

    > They undermined the League and forced Greece to pay compensation directly to Italy. Mussolini then withdrew his soldiers from Corfu. It had been proven that the League could be ignored by its own leaders.
