• What is Bordwell and Thompsons 3 point lighting system

  The figure should be lit from 3 angles:

  > Key light - The main light source creating the strongest sense of direction of lighting

  > Fill light - softened the effect of the key light, reduces shadow

  > Backlight - helps make the subject distinct from the background
• Hight key lighting


  produces an even spread of softer rounded tones, making the detail within the shadows more visible
• low key lighting


  produces more dramatic threatening shadow areas, used in dramas, horrors
• filters


  used to create the impression of a particular light source, eg if characters are illuminated by a candle an orange filter creates the illusion this is their light source
