  • Starch test
    • Add iodine to the sample.
    • If iodine turns from brown to black, starch is present.
  • Lipids test ( Emulsion test)
    • Add 10ml of distilled water and ethanol, and shake well.
    • If the top half of the solution goes from clear to milky(milky layer), lipids are present
  • Glucose test
    • Add 10ml of Benedict's solution to the sample(until the sample is fully submerged)
    • Leave the mixture in a water bath for 5 minutes at 80C
    • Blue -> green / yellow = traces of reducing sugar
    • Blue -> orange = moderate
    • Blue -> brick red = large amount of reducing sugar
  • Protein test
    • Add 1cm³ of each of Biuret reagent (solution A and B)
    • Mix them to make a blue color
    • Add the sample
    • If the solution turns from blue to purple / lilac, protein is present
