Spitfire Fund

    Cards (4)

    • A government scheme led by Lord Beaverbrook
    • If an individual or a business raised £5,000 they could have a Spitfire aircraft named after them and the name would be put on the fuselage
    • This covered some of the cost of building the Spitfires which were essential in the Battle of Britain
    • Many local communities staged ‘Spitfire Events’ to raise money, and there were some large personal donations from rich people too
