Equality of men and women

• Allah sent Muhammad (pbuh) as society needed guidance as it had become corrupt
• The Quran gave women a high status and asked for women to be shown respect
• Surah about equality of genders: 'Men and women should support each other to order what is right and forbid what is wrong'
• Both men and women are responsible for showing love and kindness to one another and to promote an Islamic environment and teach their children about Islam
• Even though men and women have different roles, Muslims do not believe this makes them unequal. They are different because men and women are naturally different and Allah has created them as such, as part of His plan
• During the time of Prophet Muhammed in Arabia, Society was corrupt, womanising and incest was normal, women were considered less important than men, and woman infanticide was normal
