Force

• Force - Anything that can cause a change to objects.
• What is the 3 things that force can do ?

  1. Change the shape of an object.
  2. Accelerate or stop an object.
  3. Change the direction of moving object.
• Contact Force - Must touch or be in contact with an object to cause a change.
• Non-contact Force - Does not have to touch an object to cause a change.
• This unit is named after Sir Isaac Newton who first defined force
• What is the 4 types of force ? Normal Force, Friction Force, Gravitational Force, and Tension Force
• Normal Force - Acts on object as a result of the interaction with the surface and is perpendicular to the surface.
• Friction Force - Arises because the surface interact with each other.
• Friction Force - A force that opposes the motion of an object in contact with surface and it acts parallel to the surface the object is in contact with.
• Gravitational Force - The force of gravity or gravitational force, pulls object with mass toward each other.
• Tension Force - If one of the objects exerting the force happens to be a rope, string, chain, or cable.
