  • Assertions - statements declared to express someone's side or belief on a certain idea backed up by evidences
  • Fact - Direct experience, testimonies of witness, results of research
  • Opinion - Must have facts as its foundation. commonly open for arguments.
  • Convention - Socially accepted at a certain place and certain period of time. laws, rules, customs, traditions, norms.
  • Preference - Very subjective in nature. entirely based on the choice of a person or group. nor require any evidence or proof.
  • Counterclaims - oppose the claims presented in the text. must be supported with evidence to be solid enough or rebut the claims.
  • Statistical Evidence - Data that present numbers to prove a point.
  • Testimonial Evidence - Data that authorized and professional testimonies about a certain topic from experts of the subject.
  • Anecdotal Evidence - Data that present a person's experience or observation
  • Analogical Evidence - Data that present a comparison of two different things to prove a certain point.
  • Book review - Detailed overview, critical examination or evaluation.
    Introduction - brief description of the book. author, title, theme, plot
    Body - nonfiction; overview and quotations. fiction; review the storyline
    Conclusion - Relate argument to other books. Include opinion worthwhile time reading it or not.
  • Article Critique - An evaluation of a certain scientific or literary piece. Critique may be positive or negative. Factual or objective.
    Introduction - Outline the argument, title, and publication date.
    Body - Reinforce the argument. Check for biases and prejudice.
    Conclusion - Warm up your critique summary of arguments.
  • Business letter - written communication between a sender and receiver. Different from friendly letter in substance, language, and tone.
  • Full Block Format - Aligned to left margin of the page. Double line space.
  • Modified Block Format - Date and complimentary close, signature line intended to the right.
  • Semi-block Format - Date and complimentary close, signature line intended to the right. Indention for the beginning of the paragraph.
  • Letter of request - Politely ask. Explain what the request is, reason of request.
  • Letter of Order - Confirms the details of a purchase or goods. More information about you are ordering. Quantity, Model, Color, Payment Method.
