Intro to DI

Cards (7)

  • Contrast
    the difference in density
lots of grey and little black/white is low
little grey and lots of black/white is high
  • Latitude
describes the range of exposure that ensures a diagnostic image is possible
  • Density
Describes the amount of blackening on a radiographic film
  • What is the main difference in imaging between a radiograph and an MRI?
Bones appears black on an MRI but white on a radiograph
  • Kilovoltage (kV)
this determines the penetrating power of the x-ray beam, the higher the kV the more electrons move around and the more energy is converted to photons
  • Film Focal Distance (FFD)
describes the distance between the target and the surface of the film, this affects the quantity of x-rays that reach the film
  • Milliamperage (mA)
the current that heats the filament in the cathode of the x-ray is measured in this, the higher the temperature the number of electrons increases
