• Anticlericalism - Humanist Approach to reforming Church from within
• Humanism: Stressed power of man and education, criticised Catholic practices but not principles
• Printing Press: brought by William Caxton, increased literacy and spread of ideas
• Erasmus: Humanist who visited England several times and taught at Oxford, in sympathy with John Skelton, Henry VIII's tutor
• John Colet: Translated New testament but was powerful enough to escape conviction
