Internal energy

• Internal energy - the total amount kinetic and potential energy stores of all particles, in a closed system
• Heating increases the internal energy of a system which can:

  1. Raise the temperature

  OR

  2. Change state
• Factors that determine the temperature change of a system;

  • Mass of substance
  • Material its made of - specific heat capacity
  • Energy inputted into system
