• Blood sugar concentration decreases below a set point
• The pancreas detects this low level and secretes Glucagon into the blood towards the liver, and also stops insulin production
• Liver cells responds to the amount of Glucagon by converting glycogen into glucose, which is released into the blood
• Blood sugar concentration increases, returning to normal
