Highlighting the reality of the conditions experienced by soldiers in the trenches. War is not glorious
Context:
Owen fought in WWI and had first-hand experience of the trenches. He tragically died one week before the end of the war. Before the war he planned on becoming a priest however in this poem, he seems to have lost his faith in God
