  • 1.
    Peel off epidermal layer of an onion
  • 2.
    Mount onto the microscope slide with a drop of water using a pippete
  • 3.
    Use two drops of iodine solution to stain the cells
  • 4.
    Put the cover slip on top trying to avoid air bubbles
  • 5.
    Remove excess stain
  • 6.
    Place slide on stage
  • 7.
    Turn the nose piece to lower power objective
  • 8.
    Set up microscope
  • 9.
    Look into the eyepiece using the coarse adjustment knob to move the stage away until it comes into focus
  • 10.
    Turn the nosepiece to a higher power objective
  • 11.
    Repeat and turn fine adjustment knob to put into focus
  • 12.
    Make a labelled drawing of the cell
