    • Folk Tales (kwentong bayan) - stories that can derive lesson. 
  • Epic (epiko) -  long narrative poems in which a series of heroic achievements
    • FolkSongs (awiting bayan) - mirrors the early forms of culture
  • Geometric Origin- refers to the place where a piece of literature came from
    • Oral Literature- form of art that delivered by mouth
    • Riddles (bugtong)- puzzling question posed as a problem to be solved or guessed. 
  • Proverbs (salawikain)- are wise sayings that contain metaphor.
    • Tanaga- consists of four lines with seven syllables each
  • Myths (Mitolohiya)- tungkol sa mga diyos diyosan atbp.
    • Legends(alamat)-explain the origin of things.
  • Fables(pabula)- use animal characters and allegory.
    • Fantasy Stories- a genre of speculative fiction involving magical elements

  • Religious Literature-  Spanish and Tagalog were included in early catechism and were used to teach Filipinos the Spanish language.
    • Pasyon (Pabasa)- long narrative poem about the passion and death of Christ.
    • Senakulo- dramatization of the pasyon. It shows the passion and death of Christ.
    • Awit- The awit is a form of Filipino poetry consisting of 12-syllable quatrains.
    • Korido- metrical tale written (a line of verse with 8 syllables)
    • Prose Narratives- written to prescribe proper decorum (kagandahang asal).
    • Political Essay- written to attack and expose the evils of Spanish rule.

    • Political Novels- employs narrative to comment on political events, systems and theories
    Example: Noli Me Tangere, El Filibusterismo
    • Japanese Occupation- During this time, Tagalog poets broke away from the Balagtas tradition and instead wrote in simple language and free verse. 
  • Rebirth of Freedom- Newspaper is printed and distributed usually daily or weekly and that contains news. Medium for recording information in the form of writing or images. A piece of writing that uses imaginative words to share ideas, emotions or a story with the readers (Poems).
    • Poetry- type of writing that uses language to express imaginative and emotional qualities 
    • Drama- A literary composition involving conflict, action that acted by players
    • Fiction- created from imagination
    • Nonfiction- based on facts
    • Illustrated novels- extended narrative with multiple images.
    • Digi Fiction- combine three media, book, movie.
    • Graphic Novel- books that are written and illustrated.
  • Manga- Japanese term of comics
    • Doodle Fiction- doodle writing and drawings and handwritten graphics in place of the traditional font.
    • Text Talk Novel- Stories told almost entirely in dialogue simulating social network/media exchanges.
    • Chick Literature- genre fiction which addresses the issue of woman hood.
    • Hyper Poetry- digital poetry that uses links
    • Flash Fiction- traditional short stories, flash fiction as short as a few words
    • Six Word Flash Fiction- use 6 words only
    • Creative Nonfiction- personal writings, travel writings
    • Science Ficiton- it talks about science and technology
    • Blog- short articles
