  • Hydrological Hazards - Are defined as an extreme weather occurrences like floods and droughts that are connected to the occurrence, movement, and distribution of water
  • Flood - Water overflows into typically dry terrain. Flooding usually happens when heavy rain falls quickly after a period of not too hot weather, or when a river or stream overflows its banks due to a nice or debris jam.
  • 1887 flood of Yellow River or Huang Ho River - One of the most severe floods in Chinese history wherein the flood began in September 1887 and killed at least 930,000 people. The flooding left 80 million people homeless.
  • Drought - Can occur when the wet season does not provide enough rain to sustain the dry season. Insufficient rainfall causes severe water shortages.
  • Dust Bowl - Also known as the "Dirty Thirties"
  • Mudslide - A particular kind of landslip that happens when a pile of debris, such as boulders or earth, slides down a hill. When water builds up quickly in the ground, it causes mudslides, which are surges of wet rock, soil, and debris.
  • Tsunami - A series of waves in a body of water caused by the displacement of large amounts of water. Caused by a large volume of water being moved around in a lake or sea.
  • Typhoon -  Cyclone, cyclonic storm and hurricane are different names for the same phenomenon: a tropical storm that forms over an ocean.
