    Sentences where the subject receives the action expressed by the verb. Structure: Object of the action + Verb (in passive form) + Agent (optional)

    • The cat (subject) chased (verb) the mouse (object)
  • Passive voice sentence
    • The mouse (object) was chased (verb in passive form) by the cat (agent)
  • In the passive voice, the focus is more on the action or the object that receives the action rather than the subject performing the action
  • Passive voice is often used when the focus should be on the receiver of the action, when the performer of the action is unknown, or when it's not important to mention who performed the action
