Cells

• Eukaryotic — complex cells with a nucleus and membrane bound organelles
• Prokaryotic -small and simple cells, no nucleus, no membrane bound organelles
• Nucleus - contains genetic material and controls the activities of the cell.
• Mitochondria - Site of aerobic respiration, where most of the energy for cellular respiration is produced
• Cytoplasm - where most of the chemical reactions take place.
• Cell membrane - controls what goes in and out of the cell, controls what goes on the inside of the cell
• Ribosomes - Site of protein synthesis in the cell.
• Cell wall - made of cellulose and supports the cell and provides strength and rigidity
• Permanent vacuole - contains cell sap and is found in plant cells.
• Chloroplast - contains chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis
• Plasmid — a small circular DNA molecule that is found in bacteria
