Cholera

• There were proper no water or waste facilities meaning water was easily contaminated
• Cholera was an epidemic that recurred several times between 1831 and 1866
• Sewage contaminated water that was drank by the population leading to cholera. Cholera caused extreme diarrhoea and sufferers died from loss of water and minerals.
• Snow used observation to find the cause of cholera as he mapped out the cases, found an anomaly and used the information to discover that the disease spread from the water from Broad Street pump
• People thought that the cause of cholera may have been miasma
• Snows method of finding the cause is continued to be used
• Snows findings were written and published in his report "On the mode of Communication of Cholera"
