  • mitosis highly controlled by genes
  • if changes occur in the genes, growth can get out of hand leading to tumours
  • benign or malignant
• cancer can be genetic, linked to lifestyle or environmental
• Benign tumours :

  • usually contained within a membrane
  • does not invade other parts of the body
• Malignant tumour :

  • invades other tissues
  • move into the bloodstream
