  • Fear the shame of going to prison
  • Worried about damaging their reputation
• Without laws, life would be dangerous and chaotic
• Most vulnerable members of societies would suffer without laws, such as the young or old
• Legal right


  A right that is protected by law
• Legal rights by age

  • 10 years old: Criminal Responsibility
  • 13 years old: Get a part-time job
  • 16 years old: Get married, buy a lottery ticket, join the armed forces
  • 17 years old: Drive a car
  • 18 years old: Vote in an election, buy fireworks
• For laws to work properly, they need support of the majority of the population
• The values and attitudes in society have changed overtime, for example it used to be illegal to be homosexual and law allowed people to have homosexual relationships
• Laws may change for all sorts of reasons but a main one would be scientific and technological improvements which bring about issues that weren't there before
