  • Bureau of Immigration (BI)

    Principally responsible for the administration and enforcement of immigration, citizenship, and alien admission and registration laws in accordance with the provisions of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940

  • Tourist visa
    Only necessary for stays exceeding 30 days and depending on the traveler's country of citizenship
  • Non-immigrant visa

    Granted for the purpose of pre-arranged employment, trade, transit, and education
  • Non-quota immigrant visa
    Apply to children and spouses of Philippine citizens and returning natural-born Filipinos
  • Quota immigrant visa
    Granted to applicants with enough financial capital who possess extraordinary professional skills or qualifications to benefit the country. A maximum of 50 quota immigrant visas are granted per year
  • Special resident retiree visa

    A non-immigrant visa that allows multiple entries and indefinite stay. Applicants must submit a deposit depending on their age and retirement pension
  • Visa validity
    Not the same as period of allowed stay, especially for temporary visitors
  • Visa extension
    Allows applicants to maintain their visa status for longer periods, which allows them to stay in a country for a longer period of time, if admitted by the authority. Applicants need to pay visa extension fees
  • Visa conversion
    Temporary visitor's visas may be converted into other visas, from non-immigrant to immigrant visa
  • Aliens with derogatory records are not allowed to extend temporary visitor's visa
  • DSWD-travel clearance for travelling Filipino minors

    Required if a Filipino minor (below 18 years of age) is traveling alone to a foreign country or accompanied by a person other than his/her parents

    2 letter codes for major international and domestic airline carriers
  • Service charges and taxes
    Service charges are a fixed percentage automatically added to room and meal charges. The city, state or federal government set taxes
  • Rack rate
    The standard price of a hotel room before any discount has been taken, usually artificially high. Rooms rarely sell for the rack rate unless the property is virtually full or a special event is taking place
  • No show billing
    A penalty incurred if a hotel reservation is not cancelled, generally by 4:00pm to 6:00pm the day of arrival. Generally, this penalty is equal to the first night's stay and taxes

  • Flag carrier
    A transportation company, such as an airline, that enjoys preferential rights or privileges accorded by the government for international operations. The term also refers to any carrier that was once owned by a government, even after their privatization

Alliances may provide marketing branding to facilitate travelers making inter-airline codeshare connections within countries. Allows earning and redeeming frequent flyer miles across alliance members. Airlines can market seats for partner airlines on their website
  • Codeshare
    An agreement between two airlines in which one airline owns the flight number and markets the flight, and the other airline operates the plane
  • Airline codes
    Two (2) alphanumeric abbreviations of air carriers used by travel agents and tour operators all over the world
  • Point-to-point fare
    The basic fare from one city to another covering only the cost of the ticket
  • Re-routing
    The change of a passenger's route, fare, class or service, schedule or validity from that originally provided in the original transportation document
