Photosynthesis

Cards (12)

  • Where does it take place?
    Chlorplasts in the leaves
  • What substance is in the chloroplasts that helps photosynthesis?
    Chlorophyll- Absorbs light
  • What is the equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + Water = Gluclose + oxygen
  • Why does photosynthesis need gluclose the most?
    1. Cellular respiration- breaks down gluclose to realease energy
    2. Cellulose- strengthens cell walls
    3. Amino acids- proteins
    4. Oils and fats
  • What factors affects the rate of photosynthesis?
    Chlorophyll, light, carbon dioxide, temperature
  • How does chlorophyll affect the rate of photosynthesis?
More chlorophyll- more light absorbtion- higher rate
  • Why does chlorophyll vary in different plants?
Diseases, environmental stress, lack of nutrients (water)
  • On a graph where do the factors of photosynthesis go?
    X axis
  • What is it called when the rate stays the same?
It has plateud- another factor is impacting it causing the rate of photosynthesis not to increase
  • Which graph is the different one?
    Temperature
  • What happens in a rate/ temp graph?
    1. The rate will increase at the beginning- enzymes working quickly due to high temp- causes molecules to move quicker- higher rate
    2. The rate will then decrease down to 0- enzymes denaturing fully at 45 degrees
  • What are some artificial things that help increase the rate of photosynthesis?
    1. Greenhouses- trap heat, artficial lighting, carbon dioxide pumps, enclosed (bugs cant get in)
    2. Fertilisers- allow plants to have enough minerals
    3. Pesticides- kill bugs
