  • Exposing radiographs
    1. Observe first set of BW PAN FMX
    2. Faculty arrives to observe radiographic technique
    3. Faculty checks off observation check box
    4. Faculty completes observation form if student receives UNSAT

  • Scheduling panoramic x-rays
    1. Schedule via Cloudent EDU scheduler
    2. Do not schedule pan in advance to clinical session
    3. Student must be signed in by faculty, given authorization, then sign up for rads
    4. Do not sign up for BWS and PAN at the same time
  • Confirming panoramic x-ray exposure
    1. Upload pan to Cloudent EDU
    2. Go to available computer, right-click appointment and click "Confirmed"
    3. Dispensary will not distribute bite block without this process being completed
  • Be prepared with intraoral and panoramic process prior to clinical session, not read laminated steps
  • Student should don lab coat when taking radiographs and remove when scanning intraoral radiographs and uploading pan
  • Student must complete entire exposure when taking a panoramic radiograph
  • Scheduling intraoral radiographs
    1. All BW, FMX, PA exposures are scheduled via the Intra Oral Radiography Room Exposure document
    2. Locate the form on desktop clinic, student forms, date, am/2 aft/3 eve folder, intra-oral radiography room sign up
  • Information clinician includes on the form
    • Time
    • Chair #
    • Student name
    • Client name
    • Glove size
    • Type of radiographs
    • Returned
    • Cleaned
  • Information IPAC personnel is responsible for
    • IPAC personnel # servicing client
    • Room # being prepared for student
    • Highlighting row in yellow when dispensary personnel dispense rad items
    • Highlighting row in green when items are returned to dispensary
  • Student should have receipt of payment for radiographs, IPAC personnel will retrieve it and bring to dispensary
  • Phosphorous plates are dispensed only upon receipt of payment
  • Radiograph approval by DDS
    1. All exposed radiographs must be approved via the "DDS Radiographic image approval document"
    2. DDS will approve radiographs simultaneously
    3. Mount all exposed radiographs and submit for approval
    4. While waiting, work on HTC
  • You only interpret radiographs that you have exposed yourself
  • What to include in radiograph interpretation
    • Only include faulty/broken restorations, not sound ones
    • Cervical burnout is not root caries, look for changes in radiolucency at and just under contact point
    • Only document what you see on radiographs, not intraoral findings
  • Bone loss
    • Use the "rule of thirds" - early/no loss in coronal 1/3, moderate in middle 1/3, severe in apical 1/3
    • Vertical bone loss is when the line from CEJ on adjacent teeth is parallel to the crest
  • Radiograph interpretation review
    1. Your interpretation form is marked by the DDS
    2. You must schedule an appointment with them via Cloudent Edu
  • There are 4 operatories reserved for the Radiology Clinic, indicated on the clinic e-schedule
  • Students can only book clients within their own clinic time, not in advance of other sessions
  • Radiographic Needs Assessment appointments
    10 minutes long
  • Radiographic Interpretation appointments
    10 minutes long, 20 minutes for FMX and PAN together
  • Cloudent EDU Scheduler indicates break times and slots allocated to certain clinics
  • When cancelling a booked appointment, students must provide sufficient notice as a courtesy
  • Students are to arrive 5 minutes before their booked appointment to prepare
  • Dentists will decide whether to see a client if they are late for their appointment

  • Students do not need to be signed in by RDH prior to seeing the DDS
  • Students booking with DDS at end of clinical session must be signed out by RDH and have kits picked up by IPAC personnel
  • Students are not permitted to pre-book appointments in any other clinic spots, except for local anesthetic up to one week in advance
  • Booking with DDS on Tuesdays
    1. Can begin booking 15 minutes prior to start of clinic if client is in building
    2. Cannot book for AFT or PM sessions until 15 minutes prior to those start times
  • Students must book within their own clinic # time slots, exception if spots are full in their clinic and open in another
  • Students do not need to bring instruments, set up or tear down the clinic unit, IPAC personnel will be responsible
  • Students must be in clinical attire and follow infection control protocols
  • Preparing the DDS Rad Room
    1. Ensure laminated green card on plexiglass, symbolizing room is clean and ready
    2. Remove green card when entering room
    3. Computer and keyboard do not require wrapping, sign indicates not to touch with gloves
  • Student's role during DDS appointment
    1. Have client seated and ready 5 minutes before scheduled time
    2. Sign in to Cloudent EDU and open TCDHA Client Care Manual
    3. Have client's chart open with radiographic forms and radiographs
    4. Describe client's medical history summary when dentist enters
  • DDS's role during appointment
    1. Verify medical history/vitals/blood glucose/clearances
    2. Evaluate soft tissues and ask student about radiograph suggestions
    3. Fill out Radiographic Needs Assessment and Preliminary IO Scan form
  • DDS providing evaluation
    1. DDS will look in client's oral cavity, evaluate soft tissues, and ask student to explain findings
    2. DDS will provide evaluation on student's e-file
    3. Student responsible for ensuring DDS completes and verifies forms, chart audit, and e-referral
  • DDS will make any applicable record of care notes, then student must close client's file and logout
  • All exposures of any prescribed radiographs will be completed during the student's own clinical session
  • Radiographic Needs Assessment and Preliminary IO Scan or Radiographic Interpretation
    1. DDS will look in the client's oral cavity and quickly evaluate the soft tissues
    2. Student explains their findings
    3. DDS provides evaluation on student's e-file
