Gold (resources, labour, land and trade routes, luxury goods)
Glory (national pride, spread of 'superior' culture, power, military power)
Revolution

A fundamental change in power or organisational structures, that takes place in a relatively short period of time
Industrial revolution

Fundamental change in the ways of production, from human labourto machines
Period of the industrial revolution
1760s to 1840s
Changes caused by the industrial revolution
Transformed most agriculture economies to become manufacturing economies as they are more efficient
Reasons why the industrial revolution started in Britain
Political stability (governmental policies made it easy for commerce to take place and taxes were low)
Geographical location (ideally placed for trade & had a mature sea-trade, building up colonies to provide cheap raw materials and sold to European markets)
Rise in population (population rose dramatically, caused by more and better food and health care and resulted in higher demand for everything)
Agricultural revolution (increase in food production, farming became more profitable, land owners had spare cash to support other projects)
Raw materials (raw materials were in abundance from colonies, transportation made easier to transport raw materials across Britain with the steam engine)
