    5. Man performs household chores to please the woman's family (paninilbihan)
    6. Woman is expected to be pakipot (hard to get)

    Boyfriend and girlfriend, after romantic gestures and successful dates
  • Pamamanhikan
    After long courtship, the man and his parents visit the woman's family and ask for her parents' blessing to marry
  • Tampuhan
    Lover's quarrel, often manifested in total silent treatment or not speaking to each other
  • Tampo
    No English equivalent, usually translated as "to sulk" but does not quite mean that

    • Marriage, a Filipino male desires a child, preferably a son, to prove his pagkalalake (being a man)
    • A newly wed male is teased as pundido (impotent) if his wife does not conceive within few months
    • His indulgence in "querida" system is sometimes tolerated if his wife cannot bear a son
    • A dalaga is expected to remain a birhen (virgin) for the man she will marry, and must be watched, chaperoned, and protected from sexual irresponsibility of men

    Connotes desire, wanting, even an impulse to possess the other

    Implies valuation, the other is prized, valued highly
