The purpose of dimensioning is to provide a clear and complete description of an images
Dimension Lines - A fine broken line that contrast well with the outline of the object. It should contact the extension lines with long, slim arrowheads.
Extension Lines - A fine line which is used to clearly show the dimension limits.
CenterLines - used to locate centers of objects, arcs and circles and sometimes used as extension line.
Leader Line - straight lines leading from a dimensions or an exploratory note to the feature on the drawing to which the notes apply
Numerical Value - gives the actual distance of the objects. They are the figures for dimension values which must be lettered in vertical or inclined styles
Notes - provides a means of explanatory information along with a size. Notes applying to the object as a whole are given leader in some convenient place in the drawing.
GUIDELINES IN DIMENSIONING A DRAWING
Accurate - correct values must be given
GUIDELINES IN DIMENSION A DRAWING
Clearness - dimensions must be placed in appropriate positions
GUIDELINES IN DIMENSION A DRAWING
Completeness - nothing must be left out, and nothing duplicated.
GUIDELINES IN DIMENSION A DRAWING
Readability - the appropriate line quality must be used for legibility.
TWO METHODS OF PLACING DIMENSIONS
Unidirectional - sometimes called the "horizontalsystem". The figures are oriented to read from the bottom. must be horizontal regardess the direction of dimension.
TWO METHODS OF PLACING DIMENSIONS
Aligned - oriented to be readable from a position perpendicular to the dimension line
Linear - Creates a linear dimension with a horizontal, vertical or rotated dimension line. Shortcut key: DLI or DIMLINEAR
Aligned - creates a linear dimension that is aligned with the origin points of the extension line. Shortcut Key: DAL or DIMALIGNED
Angular - measures the angle between selected objects or 3 points. Shortcut Key: DIMANG or DIMANGULAR
Arc Length - measures the distance along an arc or polyline are segment. The extension lines of an arc length dimension can be orthogonal or radial. Shortcut key: DAR or DIMARC
Radius - creates a radius dimension for a circle or an arc. It measures the radius of a selected circle or arc. Shortcut key: DIMRAD or DIMRADIUS
Diameter - creates a diameter dimension for a circle or an arc. Shortcut key: DIMDIA or DIMDIAMETER
Ordinate - measure the horizontal or vertical distanced from an origin point called datum. Shortcut key: DIMORD or DIMORDINATE.
Jogged - creates a jogged dimension for circles and arcs. The dimension are created when the center of the circle or arc is located off the layout. Shortcut key: DIMJOGGED
