    • Long living tubes
    • Transports organic substances (mainly sucrose) in both directions (translocation)
    • No lignin
    • Specialised sieve cells (regulates movement of sugars + others)
    • Companion cells (carry out cellular functions e.g. ATP synthesis + active transport as they have a nucleus)
