  • Reducing sugars test

    1. Take 5cm³ of sample
    2. Add 10 drops of Benedict’s solution
    3. place in water bath (75) for 5 mins
    6. If present, solution will go from green, yellow then brick red
  • Starch test

    1. Take 5cm³ of sample
    2. Add a few drops of iodine solution
    3. solution will go browny orange. shake, if present will go blue/black
  • Protein test

    1. Take 2cm^3 of sample and 2cm of biuret
    2. shake, solution will go blue. if present, will go pink or purple
  • Lipids/fats test
    1. Take 5cm³ of sample (not filtered)
    2. Add 3 drops of ethanol
    3. Give shake
    4. If solution goes cloudy, lipids/fats are present
