Esophagus

• Anatomy:

  -About 10 inches long

  -Runs from pharynx to stomach though the diaphragm
• Physiology:

  -Conducts food by peristalsis (slow rhythmic squeezing) to the stomach

  -Passageway for food only (respiratory system branches off after the pharynx)
