• what is a marxist?

  someone who believes Karl Marx ideas that capitalism is unequal and undemocratic being based on the exploitation of the working class by the ruling class.
• who are the bourgeoisie?

  the ruling class, they have all the wealth and power. owns property, big businesses, land, factories etc.
• who are the proletariat?


  the subject class, they have no wealth or power, have to sell their labour to survive. they own no businesses.
• traditional marxists believe that crime fulfils what following functions?

  1. helps enforce ruling class norms and values

  2. individuals who are a threat to capitalism can be imprisoned and silenced.

  3. criminals become the enemy and are blamed for all societies problems.
• the marxist view shows how an inequality is society can lead to what?

  leads to criminal behaviour
• what can the marxist view on crime demonstrate?

  how poverty can cause working class crime.
• capitalism promotes what and why is this linked to crime?

  it promotes greed and encourages class crime. if people will gain from crime then they will commit it.
• why is the marxist view not always relevant?

  it does not explain crimes where the individual will not get personal gain from, or crimes that are not related to inequality of class.
