Cards (19)

  • objective lense is to increase or decrease magnification levels
  • Coarse adjustment knob is used to adjust the stage
  • stage is where specimen is placed
  • clip is to clip down slide
  • lamp is the light source
  • field of view is the visible extent of the view
  • Magnification is how many times bigger the view is
  • total magnification is equal to eye piece lense x obj lens magnification
  • Microscopy is used to study cells
  • resolution is how clear the view is
  • light microscopes work by passing through the specimen and can only study live cells
  • electors microscopes use electrons
  • electron microscopes cannot be used to view living cells
  • electron microscopes legs is see sub cellular structures and organelles like chroloplasts and mitochondria
  • fine adjustment knob adjusts the focus
  • coarse adjustment knob moves the slide up or down so it's under the objective lens
  • the stage clips hold the slides in place on the stage
  • to prepare slide/
    1. turn objective lens to LOWEST POWER
    2. .use coarse knob to move stage up
    3. move stage downwards slowly to see specimen come into focus
    4. turn objective lense to higher MAGNIFICATION to whatever the question is
    5. use fine knob to get a clearer image
  • to get a better view of FOV when finding diameter, refocus by changing obj lens power and recalculate the fov
