• Interphase is when the cell grows and replicates its DNA.
• IPMATC: interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telephase, cytokenesis
• Metaphase - chromosomes line up along equatorial plane of cell; spindle fibers attach to kinetochores on chromatids
• Anaphase - sister chromatids separate at centromere; spindle fibers pull separated chromatids towards opposite poles of cell
• Telophase - nuclear envelope reforms around new nuclei; chromatin condenses into chromosomes; spindle fibers break down
• Cytokinesis - cytoplasm divides by formation of cleavage furrow or pinching off of vesicles from Golgi apparatus
• Mitotic index is the percentage of cells undergoing mitosis.
• Prophase - chromatin condenses into visible chromosomes; nuclear envelope breaks down; centrioles move to opposite poles of nucleus; spindle fibers form between centrioles
