  • Strengths
+Research support: Geiselman showed police training videos of violent crimes to a group of 89 undergraduates and 48 hours later they were interviewed using standard or cognitive interview. Each interview was taped and recorded for accuracy. Results: PP reported more correct items in cognitive interview than standard which supports efficiency of cognitive interview.
  • Weaknesses
-CI is effective with children and elderly: the techniques are founf to be more effective with elderly witnesses. As we age we become more aware that our memory is deteriorating and are likely to with hold information when questionned. Report everything and change the order technique encourages elderly to say everything.
-Quantity VS accuracy of recall: many studies judged effectiveness on the amount of info reported and ignore the quality of info recalled.
-Economic Implications: conducting CI requires police training and taje longer to conduct than standard interviews.
