• to solve an equation involving logs, get all of the logs on one side and then use the fact that log to the base a of a is equal to 1 to replace any values on the other side with equivalent logarithms
• b log a is the same as log a^b
• log a - log b is the same as log a/b
• log a + log b is the same as log a*b
• log to any base of 1 is 0
• log to the base a of a is 1
