  Hormones that regulate glucose, protein and fat metabolism
• Biosynthesis of glucocorticoids

  Pregnenolone or progesterone hydroxylated at C17, C21, and C11 to form cortisol

  
• Regulation of mineralocorticoid secretion

  Primarily by renin-angiotensin system, potassium, sodium, ACTH, and neural mechanisms
• ACTH and sodium may also regulate aldosterone production in special circumstances
