    -most permanent form
    -occurs when person conforms because they believe in the norms of group
    -behaviour will continue even when group pressure removed
    -public & private opinions change
    -group opinion accepted by individual & becomes part of own thinking
  • difference between compliance & internalisation
    -compliance doesn't lead to change in private opinion
    -behaviour won't remain if group is removed
